Isis Rises Operetta – Act 1

Summary of Act 1 – Return and Subsequent Demise of Osiris

a- We begin with a screen showing the cosmos — then Earth — then Egypt and the Nile [from above]  — Our story begins at the tip of the Delta.

b- Dancers with palm tree branches are chatting and waiting for the arrival of some special one!

c- As Osiris appears in the distance, the crowd erupts in joy and the typical Egyptian celebratory zaghareed[ringing tongues in mouths]. Two female dancers present a bowl of fruit each to Osiris

The happy music erupts and the seven female dancers waive their palm tree branches in a welcoming home dance for Osiris.

d- In honor of the safe return of Osiris, the seven dancers[muses]perform the lotus’ dance. The dancers are wearing the typical Egyptian female head band with a lotus flower attached to the headband, for this particular dance performance. They are also holding an emblem in the form of a lotus flower as a prop in their dancing performance..

e- Dancers leave — enters shadowy [male] characters carrying a simple casket. They open the lid and invite Osiris to test the casket. Osiris lays down into it. They quickly shut down the lid and sealed it. They carried the casket to the Nile and threw it in the running water of the Nile.

f- The stage screen shows how the casket containing Osiris’ body travels the eastern Branch of the Nile Delta Northwood towards the Mediterranean Sea; and from there to a distant shore line with a lush green site that contains a magnificent tree!

g- Back at the original site where it all began, the seven female dancers appear on the stage wailing in despair — sounds of doves crying – Isis appears grief stricken. Isis[in her golden dress] joins in the ‘lamentation’ dance.

h- The wailing women/dancers leave and Isis is all alone on the stage. She continues with the Lamenting dance. Then she sat down all alone crying!
